Active methodologies for a face-to-face meaningful learning (ASAP-UPC)

Objective: To provide solutions to combat absenteeism in the engineering classroom by incorporating active-learning methodologies.

The drop in student attendance in engineering classrooms at the UPC is a fact of institutional concern. In this context, the project proposes an in-depth analysis of the problem of absenteeism with a view to providing some practical solutions. This involves the study of the phenomenon at different educational levels within the UPC, distinguishing between bachelor’s degree and master’s degree students, as well as between first-year and final-year students. To combat absenteeism in the classroom, it is necessary to explore the reasons why this absenteeism occurs in the first place and what needs of students not attending classes should be covered. Once this causal analysis of absenteeism is carried out, the project intends to present possible practical solutions based on the principles of active learning with a competence-based orientation.
